Determination of chiller capacity in ice storage systems

Analyses in details the hourly load relocation and glycol temperature for three different configurations of an ice storage system with the commonlyused formulas for determining the chiller and icetank capacity. Points out that the chiller capacity and icetank size determined by the formulas can not satisfy the actual load requirement on many occasions. Concludes that series system with chiller upstream and icemelting priority is the most effective through a preliminary comparison of the control performances among several systems. Points out the problems deserving notice about the load proportioning in ice storage systems with a base chiller.
